She has over 30 years’ experience working in adult mental health services in the NHS and privately, and more latterly, additionally working in physical health. Lottie has been passionate about supporting adults with emotional wellbeing, empowering others to meet their goals and build resilience to cope with life stresses; believing that the earlier the support is offered, the better. Abi has experience in mental health and the impact it has on daily life both personally and through her job.

Sandy Carter
Sandy is now retired, but previously worked as a nurse, an administrator, and a pastoral care worker in a primary school. Her role involved supporting children, parents, and staff with both emotional and practical needs. Before retiring, she also helped to supervise pastoral care workers and senior leadership teams within educational settings. These roles often included safeguarding responsibilities and always centred on promoting positive mental health. Sandy has long held a passion for seeing people reach their full potential and overcome life’s challenges, something that aligns closely with the heart of I Am Confident.

She is married to Gordon, and together they love spending time with family, both biological and their church family. Living on the south coast gives them plenty of opportunities to enjoy beach walks and explore the Jurassic Coast, and Sandy especially loves swimming in the sea during the summer. She also enjoys Pilates, line dancing, baking, and hosting others in their home.

Both Sandy and Gordon consider it a privilege to serve as trustees, offering support and encouragement to those delivering the course content and helping to broaden its reach.

Gorden Carter
Gordon is now retired after serving the people of Dorset for 34 years as a paramedic—a role he found both rewarding and challenging. Throughout his career, he mentored students and supported colleagues, reflecting his longstanding passion for investing in people. This began even earlier in his life when he volunteered as a cub scout leader and later as a youth leader, where he had the privilege of watching young people grow, develop new skills, and mature.

More recently, Gordon has served in a leadership role within his local church, giving him valuable insight into the emotional, spiritual, financial, and physical challenges people face—often on a daily and complex level.

Gordon is married to Sandy, and together they have raised two sons, both now married with children of their own. Family time has always been a priority for him. Outside of that, he enjoys gardening and walking along the coast or further afield. When the weather keeps him indoors, he can usually be found in the garden cabin, happily working on his model railway.
